I grew up in Waynesboro, VA where I learned to love the outdoors and attended and graduated from the Art Institute of Atlanta in 1985 with a degree in Visual Communications. After college, I moved to Charlotte, NC and worked for several advertising agencies before joining one of the nations largest banking companies – eventually earning a creative director’s position. My career with the bank spanned 13 years, 3 corporate name changes and countless mergers. Today, I makes his home in Charlotte, NC with my wife Heather, and children Morgan, John and my golden retrievers, Annie and Sophie. If you don’t find me in the garden planting something colorful or on the lake, I’m probably in his studio trying to put images to paper or canvas.

I love creating, and have tried many forms of art, from visual to performing. After college I began exploring the world of oil and acrylic paint, which I only ever dabbled in prior. I constantly experiment with mixed media within my painting; I like to use plastic, paper, glue, spackle, dirt, leaves, grass, packaging popcorn, shredded cardboard, and much more. I like my paintings to be tactile, sculptural, bright and colorful. Design is my life and my passion; paint is now my obsession.
I’m inspired by life’s journey, and fascinated by people, the way they look, feel, interact, move, etc. I could sit in a public place for hours and watch people. Nature is also an undeniable force of inspiration, and my imagination goes wild when observing the great outdoors, its textures, colors, smells, formations, and symmetry.

From the time she could walk, Sarah was a natural performer. As a child, she lined up performances for her family, singing and dancing for them. She started ballet, tap and jazz as soon as she was old enough, and that progressed into gymnastics. For 13 years, Sarah was a competitive gymnast with an intense love for catering to the crowd.
After high school, Sarah sought out a new form of dance. In 2008, she found Belly Dance and immediately fell in love. By 2009, she was performing in the Carolina Renaissance Festival, and by 2012, she branched out to other festivals around the country, making guest appearances. She was also known to perform with fire, primarily fans and fire breathing. 2012 was a big year for Sarah, as this was the same year she found aerial silks and connected with her dance partner, Satya. She grew very fond of being in the air, and Satya began training her to eat fire. A beautiful bond was formed as Satya and Sarah began working more and more together. By 2013, Satarah had formed and these ladies started performing all over the country together.

Born in 1960, Rod was adopted by missionary parents, and most of his formative years were spent in the Central African Republic. Largely ignored by the rest of the world, and ruled by then dictator Jean Bedel Bokassa, this poverty stricken country in the center of the African continent, was where Rod first discovered his love of creative expression. The African culture, with its unique design aesthetic, exotic wildlife, and visionary landscapes, are all continuing influences in this artist’s ongoing exploration of his own work. During this time his family made several trips to Europe, where they always made a point to visit the world renowned museums.

Josh’s work has developed from representation drawing and painting to more abstract themes. His process now begins with unspecified goals to allow the piece to materialize freely and intuitively. Once the language of color, textures and composition begin to emerge, he interacts with more intention and focus while trying to remain faithful to the beginning gift that has presented itself. The end result is a piece of harmonious colors that expresses a sense of form and place.

Upon graduation I was drafted into military service in Viet Nam. Once discharged my creative drive was channeled into building an advertising agency in Charlotte, North Carolina, which I ran for 40 years. Throughout my years in training, when abstract expressionism ruled the art world, my focus remained on figurative subject matter. To this day, I do not just slap paint on canvas. I believe art should tell a story in a beautiful way.
I am an artist’s artist. Invariably my most appreciative audiences are other artists, who readily see what is “happening” in my pictures. When I paint a musician, I want you to hear him as well as see him. When I paint a landscape, I want you to feel it and hear it and smell it. When I paint a woman, I want you to (think you) know what she’s thinking. And when I paint with a roar of impossible color, I want you to exclaim, “Yes, I get that!”
I started painting while working in my first job as a morning anchor in Myrtle Beach. At first it was like a form of therapy for me — a way to wind down after a stressful day. Then I began selling to friends and family, and eventually online and at several local stores.
The more work I sold, the more addicted I became. The process of taking a blank canvas and turning it into something beautiful for a space became my new passion, and my old passion started to lose its luster. In June 2016 I made the decision to leave the news industry and take the plunge into art full-time. I haven’t looked back since. My signature style includes bold, broad brushstrokes and geometric patterns. You can find my paintings on display at several Charlotte area stores including Slate Interiors and Shop Revolution.
